
Prof Ramesh Ori
Prof Ori holds B.Sc and B.Sc Honours degrees in Applied Mathematics (cum laude) from the University of South Africa. Between 1972-1975 he completed an M Sc in Applied Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Colorado in the United States.
Starting his academic career as a graduate assistant at Colorado in 1970, Prof Ori joined the (former) University of Durban-Westville (UDW) as a senior lecturer in 1976; he then worked as visiting professor at the University of Toledo before becoming an Associate Professor at UDW in 1982.
In 1986 he was appointed as the Head of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at UDW.
Between 1995 and 1999 he served as Dean of UDW’s Faculty of Science until the amalgamation with the University of Natal and, prior to joining Unizulu, was Executive Director of Academic Affairs at UKZN.
In 2003 and 2006, respectively, he obtained Senior Professor and Professor Emeritus status.
Apart from serving on at least 16 university bodies and senior committees, Prof Ori boasts an impressive list of publications. He served as a member of the South African and American Mathematical societies and refereed various international journals.
Among several grants, he received the Anglo-American Scholarship to conduct research in Nearness Spaces (1981), the Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research in Dimension Theory of Nearness Spaces at the University of Toledo (1982).
